One Life Church Remodel
To the Point: Remodel & addition to existing church campus
Location: Mesa, Arizona
Owner: One Life Church
One Life Church, formerly Trinity Baptist Church, has been a central Mesa landmark since 1962. Nicole has been involved in nearly every upgrade and remodel since 2004, when she designed the original addition to the church’s main sanctuary.
The main worship hall is centrally located, and the fellowship hall, smaller chapel, and classrooms for children’s services are spread across four other buildings. The campus is a mashup of colors and materials resulting from 59 years of disconnected upgrades and remodels.
After an extensive capital campaign, One Life was ready to come “to life” with a new campus-wide remodel. On Point was integral in developing the campus remodeling objectives, vision, and construction documents to help bring this remodel to fruition.
Working alongside the contractor to maintain the church’s budget, On Point developed an entire kids-focused facility. This included a complete upgrade to the current check-in center (triple the size of the original), renovation of an underutilized fellowship hall to create three new kids’ classrooms, a kids’ group classroom with a stage, and a complete overhaul of the central courtyard.
The courtyard was a vital piece of this renovation, as the pastor clearly envisioned what that space needed to be for the kids’ use. This scope of work included a complete demolition and rebuild and now features a large new shade structure with patio seating and kids’ playground equipment. All new landscape and turf areas round out the remodel and provide a fun and safe space for kids and adults alike.
But that wasn’t all! On Point also created a new café patio directly adjacent to their existing café within the worship building. For better access, we installed a large folding glass door for direct access from the interior café to the exterior dining patio.
All the landscaping on the entire campus was refreshed with new trees and shrubbery to round off the whole package.
For the final cohesive redesign, On Point chose a new color palette for the campus, which even required painting some existing metal roofs. All the buildings were given a fresh new coat of paint, new safety fencing & gates were installed, and new lighting helped to create an invigorated campus feel.
